View Full Version : almost release time: will you or won't you?

We're almost at release, just a week to go. It's safe to say the game won't change too much before release, except for fewer crashes and (hopefully) better framerate and less lag.

So, are you going to buy it or not?

nah... its very fun for a couple of weeks, but i'm already getting tired of the gameplay :boring:

I can't help but think that release will lead to better gameplay...more outfits and more organized outfits. Higher-level chars cuz we won't get wiped without warning any more. New weapons, vehicles, skills and areas.

Not to mention the different types of strategies and tactics that evolve over time in any game.

I dunno...for myself, I am pretty excited about playing after release.

There is nothing else for me to play if I dont play PS. T2 just hasn't held my interest for the past while.

tired of the gameplay, what's the differnce between this and BF1942

been reading around the official forums, from what i've learned, the devs have a crapload of things that they plan to implement after release,
theyre objective at the moment is to get the game into a playable state,

so give the game a chance there will lots of new stuff and improvements after the game comes out, it wont really be "Done" for another couple months or so

i'd hope there are a lot of differences between this and bf1942, or you'd be paying monthly's for no reason :P

and to give this game a chance would be expensive, a couple of months of a game, or a new 12" sub for my room :)

They need to make the weather really come in. The only weathere I have seen is a "sand storm" and snowing. Make it come in with heavy rain, light rain, heavy snow and so on. Oh and a tornado to come thru and take people away and drop them somewhere else :D.

Ill just create a name under Gryphons account cuz I dont think Ill play it that much for me to go buy another copy.

i am pretty sure I won't be playing or paying for PS. I will wait till I have more time, finals have drained the bank account and now I only have time for work. Plus I feel that there is nothing really gained by playing PS. The continent you locked is gone the next day. You can get access to anything within a few Br's. The only advantage is that cheating won't be as common as in most FPS. I just don't think it is worth 60+(14*12)= $228 bucks....that is what I could buy an XBOX with. Maybe I will change my mind after a couple weeks(my bro is getting it).

I'm in. I am just loving this game more the more I play it. Or was, before I quit. I'll buy it, play for the free month, then we'll see, but most likely I'll stick with it. I like the gameplay and the team spirit. You will not ever get this type of well organized gameplay in any other game I ever played online. There are far fewer cowboys in PS than in, say BF. Besides, it's pretty close to what Tribes ought to have been in my book. (Guess I am in for a world of hurt for that comment :D )

I'm in. Yes, it may be the same struggle over and over, but I love team PvP, and this can only get better.

Damn lynx...I would have thought that you would be playing for sure. You always sounds so excited when you've scouted out an enemy base and you're sitting cloaked in the CC. :D

I'm in the undecided group. I have it preordered, and will probably keep that order, but I really think it needs work on the skill side of things. It bugs me that aim and movement are so hindered. Also, infantry combat seems gimped and slow. Think about a light fighting a heavy in T2...both have advantages and disadvantages. Either could win the fight, especially if the heavy knows what he's doing. In PS, I would never try to kill a MAX upclose with a light or reinforced armor. There are just some really screwy things about PS, and the lack of real FPS skill bugs me, along with the persistent balance problems.

They need more continents.

I know what you're saying Shark...T2 is a great example of good balance between heavy and light. I played both all the time (LO & HO were my two big roles), and I found that there was nothing worse for the heavy than being alone and have an enemy light show up. Yet if the heavy was smart, he had a chance. In PS, being a MAX is a lot more like being a walking tank than it is being a heavy in Tribes, in spite of the superficial similarities.

Unless I have backup or an anti-vehicle weapon, when I see a MAX I do what I do in BF1942 when I see a tank - run and/or hide.

I think for myself I would be a lot happier with the skill aspect of the game if I could get good framerates in battles. As it is now, the game is so jerky that my aim just plain sucks, I never get the impression in any outdoor firefight that I am playing well. But I'm trying to solve that problem, so who knows. :)

gotta get it.

I have found that using a shotgun with armor piercing bullets helps take a max down quicker in a base. however if im caught out in the open and im not in a tank i run for my life.

Yep...As soon as we enter a base I change to shotgun with AP rounds. I've killed 3 maxes with that loadout by getting behind them and staying there.

did they fix the weapon fire splash damage?

Ravin

I haven't found it any help to try to stay behind MAXs at all. They just seem to start firing thru their backs at me anyway. Once in a while it seems to work, but only when there's very few other bodies in the area.

One word: Decimators.

Shark
05-14-2003, 07:25 AM
Yes Decimators do the trick too. But last night, I started a new character to test out the Lasher. I find this does a relatively good job against MAX's in open areas, where you can get around them. If you can get past them, you can usually stay behind them. I was in light armor last night with just a lasher and I must say, that thing kicks ass. It's the closest thing to a 'skillful' weapon I've found in the game. I killed four MAX's with it and somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 infantry, both indoors and outdoors. And Splidz, what you say about frame rate is very true.

You may recall that I was asking for advice on a new puter a few weeks ago...well, that computer is built now. My old one was an Athlon 1400 with GForce3 and 512mb...this one is Intel 3.0 (Canterwood) with a 9700 Pro and that nifty Corsair XMS memory (1GB). It makes a HUGE difference. I hear you guys complaining about frame rates on TS, but I don't have the heart to tell you that I'm not having that problem. If you're gonna be serious about PS, you should plan on upgrading. I went pretty whole hog on mine and could have easily saved about $600 on it if I hadn't bought two SATA drives (for RAID) and the top end chip...you can save about 250 if you by a 2.6 and probably more for a 2.4. As long as they are the Canterwood chips (800 MHz FSB), they all have HyperThreading running, so you don't have to get the 3.0 to get HT. T2 runs well on it too (like 140 fps outside), but I had a UE the other night, so not sure how stable it will be. Still need more time on that.

After last night, I have to say that PS really is quite fun. Yes, there are imbalances, but I managed to stick it to the cyclers last night, in a big way. Too bad I had to spend 6 certs to get to the lasher while they spend to 2 for the cycler...IMO, those 6 certs are worth it for how dominating it is. The nice thing is that it does splash damage, but not to you or other friendlies. It will do friendly fire on direct hits, but the tactic I use is to run right up to the bastard TR and shoot the thing right in his face (well, actually his feet)...they don't last long. Hope they don't nerf this weapon.

I've seen many many posts where the TR and NC guys say they'll loot a Lasher off people, hell even the Pulsar. They think our weapons are the shit, but we all think their weapons are the shit.

LOL.....we all know theirs kill us faster, but the Lasher is well worth the certs. Lancer is too, 2 shots kill a light but it's hella more skill oriented to hit them with the charge up time in there and all.

Bases are really beginning to get boring. You guys should add some uniques structures other than the towers and bases. Something like old run down facilities used by Vanu scientist, or maybe old rundown communication or supply facilities. Maybe even throw in some old vehicle carcasses and ancient Vanu artifacts or vessels.
And within these "unique structures" you could place maybe weapons you could pick up or a terminal of some sort. The atmosphere is boring. Though it would be nice to add more swamps and thicker brush.

Tell Twist to apologize. jk

deadreign...you are going to *love* some of the post-release stuff we're going to do. We agree that more objectives in the game would be fun and we're going to deliver that in spades. I can't release details yet but I haven't lied to you yet. Trust me.

this is what i was referring to about the splash damage bug. there was a bug where if you stand close to someone there is an area where if they are firing their weapon it will hurt you even if the projectiles aren't hitting you. not sure how big the radius is or if it is specific to some weapons. most reports refer to MAXes. but if they still have not fixed this (though i think they must have by now since they posted saying they were working on it a long time ago) then in theory you might be able to knife someone while looking in exactly the opposite direction from them if your ass is touching them.

SmackDab

I think you can do that knifing trick.

Also I read a report where this friendly MAX guy was covering a hacker doing his business on a CC console, when they came under attack the friendly MAX starts laying down fire, then gets grief points cause he inadvertanly killed the hacker somehow who was BEHIND him. LOL.

I've been i'd say somewhat far behind an enemy TR max and still gotten damage. I know I was outside his bouding box for damage. Damn bug was still there last time I played on Tuesday night.

Ravin

No Dies, what I refer to is usually caused by lag or possibly framerate. It makes it tough trying to figure out where to stand around a MAX.

I think that I may have a small addiction to PS...so I am pretty sure that I'll be in the game after it is released. :p
Can hardly wait...
