I got to the point of getting a boat and sailing out to the island. I got killed and went back to the jail. Thats where I stopped....

No, that's Pirates of the Burning Seas that is shutting down servers. Apparently Disney is happy with the subscribers as they're adding new content. I haven't played after that first month or so though..... Gameplay wasn't deep enough.
