Texas is arresting people for being drunk. In bars.

Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

That only counts if you exceed the legal alcohol limit.

And Texas is too good for both of you.

More like in Virginia where you just steal the cough syrup from the drug store.

Oddly enough we discussed this in one of my criminal justice classes today... thats some funny crap. Here in Illinois we just beat up homeless people for their 40's, then pour a lil out on the curb for our homies.

At least we know how to vote in Texas unlike some other states...like Florida. Drinking at a bar does not mean you go to get drunk. If you personally go to get drunk at a bar then you are seriously a peice of of drunken crap.

wtf?!

Then your only allowed to get drunk at your home? Then what is going to stop them from coming to your own home and arresting you? Thats what bars are made for to have a good time and if you get wasted and have a friend or some way to get home safely I see no problem. Just cause you make a law as stupid as this one doesnt make it right.

Knowing how to vote is one thing knowing how to cheat and not get caught is another. Flordia is just one of the states he got caught has nothing to do with the voters.

Well i'm a "peice of drunken crap" because that is what a bar is for in my opinion.

P.S. come back when you are 21 and drunk in a bar.

First off, the "drunken crap" remark was sarcastic. So you think that going out and getting wasted is fun? Age has nothing to do with this, after many months of partying I decided that I was not going to drinker. Waking up and feeling like shit all day is not worth a few hours of fun imo, but thats me. I have no problem with drinking but there are idiots out there that get in fights, drive, etc...when they are intoxicated.

FYI Im not a Pres. Bush fan but it was the voters in Florida.

and on the note of making fun of states; why dont you go get some Starbucks and shop at the gap and lose the Superbowl?

Maybe ya feel like shit the next day cuz you are a bad drinker? Remember kids, drinking is not a sprint its more like a marathon LOL. :yup:

BTW no more state jokes cuz I can feel the Missouri jokes right around the corner. Or at least keep them up to date...

I generally don't mind feeling hungover, because it gives me an excuse to engage in the number one hangover remedy: more drinking.

As far as drinking in general goes, to each his or her own. I love to drink. In fact most of the WoW playing I did, I did while drinking. Frils and Ditor can attest to the nights where I would be playing and then suddenly announce I needed to depart. That was generally the point at which the room started spinning (drinking and playing video games can become somewhat disorienting).

All this talking about drinking is making me think about the 26 ounce bottle of Stoli and the 12 Kilkenny tall boys I've got chilling downstairs right now. Friiiiiiiiiday night and I'm not in Texas, hell yeah!!! ;)

Yeah Texas sucks a big soft one because it can't get it up.

I can't believe that shit passed in the legislature. That is fucking retarded. Ardy stop trying to defend your state, it now sucks worse than the rest of them and you don't have the "old retired people" excuse like Florida does.

To my understanding this law has been on the books for decades. Also they don't have to conduct any test but rather just suspicion. At least thats what I have been told by others. If I had the time I would look at the Texas laws to see how the law is written and when it came into effect.

If you drink a beer, youre not going to get arrested. They are talking about when have drunk so much to the point that you are puking, starting fights, and finding very unattractive people....attractive. Plus this will be REAL easy to fight in court and Im sure there will be a lawsuit. So LMB.

LMB - the law sucks. People go to bars to get drunk. If they start a fight or whatever then yes, action should be taken but assuming that they're going to do it just because they're drunk? And arresting them before the fact? What happened to free will or our ability to make choices while drunk, albiet bad ones?

This is just like that movie Minority Report when people got arrested before they did crimes rather than afterwards.

When will people realize that drunkards killing other people is just natures way of evening out the population.

Going out and getting drunk is fine so long as you are responisble about it i.e. having a dd, etc...

"The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car."

"There are a lot of dangerous and stupid things people do when they're intoxicated, other than get behind the wheel of a car," Beck said. "People walk out into traffic and get run over, people jump off of balconies trying to reach a swimming pool and miss."

That is what this law is for. They arnt going into the bar and arresting people for being drunk. It is for the out of control people who pose a serious threat to others. Most of you obviously do not know how much of a problem this is in Texas...

Darwin had a phrase for this...that phrase was "Natural Selection." The only problem is if the people doing such things had children, because then the idiot genes had already been passed on.
