Well I'm off to Atlantic City tomorrow to play in a satellite into the $10k buy-in Borgata Poker Open. What the hell is he talking about you might ask? Well it's a cheap mans' way of making a ton of money if you play right and get a little lucky as well. I'm playing in a $50 tourney. Win that and I get an entry into a $500 tourney. Win that and I'm in the big dance with a chance to win over $1 mil!

Well the thourny didn't go as planned. About 120 entries and I busted out around 50th or so. The top 8 were getting the vouchers for the bigger one. Other trip notes:

*The Borgata card room is NICE!!! However, it's also very popular. Had to wait for an hour after the tournament for a seat and that was at 12:30pm on a weekday.

*I broke my own rule and decided to play some blackjack while I waited for a seat. I love blackjack and play well, but i like to limit myself to one type of vice a day normally. So scratch $200 there. Bankroll now down to $235 out of my original $500 due to the tournament entry fee and that.

*Got in a 3-6 limit game with name on list for 1-2 no-limit. Made about $20 in 15 minutes then got my other seat. Bankroll $255.

*Not a bad table over at 1-2 NL. Bluffed a girl with a J high hand after I could tell by her face she was on a draw after I bet $40 after the flop. Bet $40 on turn again and she really didn't want to call but did. So i bet $50 on river and she folded. I LOVE NL POKER!!!! A few other decent hands came up but was getting hungry around 3pm. So I cashed out and my bankroll stood at $455, almost back even.

*Went to the Taj Mahal to play. Got in a 1-2 NL game right away. For about 4 hours I kept bumping up and down in $100 swings, but left the game with $570 after I bluffed a guy with pocket 8's. I had raised to $10 pre-flop. Standard raise for that table. He was the only caller. Flop came down 10 7 6, all clubs. Guy bets $25 to me. I didn't have a club, but wanted to see where I was, especially since I had a gutshot and thought I could buy the pot right there. I raised to $75. He takes awhile to call. At this point I figured if a blank came on the next card I could get him to fold. He was an old guy and had been making money the whole time I had been there. BUT he never played big pots and always showed down excellent hands. So I figured he was probably there playing every day supplementing his retirment income since he was pretty old. Didn't want to take risks. So I bet out $100 and he folded. Told me he threw away pocket jacks and even had a club so he had a chance at the flush. My read was correct though and I made him throw down the better hand.

*Left that game and joined another 1-2 NL table. Got my stack up to about $460 in 3 hours. (BTW when you switch games you are limited to buying in for $300 max at 1-2 NL at the Taj) It's 2:30am and I'm feeling good. My cards were hitting and I was still wide awake thanks to the copious amounts of free redbull I was drinking. The it happened. This hand is why NL is so great and also why a lot of people don't have the stomach for it. I limp in with 8-9 diamonds along with 5 others into the pot. Flop comes 6-8-9 with two spades. So I have top two pair. I had already decided to not fool around with flush draws and make a big bet, but the first guy to act bets $50! Now there's only $12 in the pot right now so his bet is a bit odd. I wasn't going to bet that much even with my hand. Now with that flop there's only 5 possible hands that are ahead of me. 5-7, 7-T, trip 6, trip 8, trip 9. With me holding the 8 and 9 i'm fairly certain he doesn't have those and frankly I'm not worried at this point. To see if he was serious about the pot or maybe pick it up right there I raised to $200. He takes about 2 seconds and pushes the rest of his stack in. Now at this point I honestly didn't hesitate hardly at all either and called. I still thought I was probably ahead, maybe he had an overpair or was semi-bluffing to win with a flush draw. He turns over two 6's for trips. I'm disappointed at this but wasn't dead yet. Still 4 cards in the deck where I win, any 8 or 9. Turn and flop are both spades, neither an 8 or 9, and I lose $370 in a single hand of poker. Still not mad or really all that upset. With that flop I had an incredibly powerful hand and you can't be afraid when you've got a monster to put your money in. So I'm down to $90 on the table.

*I buy $100 more chips as in NL you don't want to only have a small stack if you have the nuts baby! Over the next hour though I get good hands but can't hit a flop to save my life and bleed those out as well. So I take my leave of the casino at 3:30am with $400 less than what I went in with but had a great time and can't wait to do it again. I mean, if I play as well as I did, most of the time I'll be on the top end of that big hand and be up $500 or so for the day. Thats just poker baby and I love it!
