View Full Version : Review [This Website] What Website Did You Think I Meant
Splidz 07-13-2005, 10:03 PM It's a love affair: me and this website. It's wearing black these days and I can't take my eyes off of it. And you can smack it. :twhack: This website is like a pimp's dream come true.
Unfortunately there do seem to be some scabs and associated flea-like characters hanging about, and not just in the private areas. There's also the occasional drunken outburst. Because of that, I'm going to have to remove half a star. :banned:
On the whole, though, this website is SMOKIN baby.

Ardamir 07-13-2005, 10:56 PM Oh man thats hot! Yet so cold. 4.5...why?
Gryphon 07-13-2005, 11:04 PM woot!
I sense great bias in this one... CHEATER!
On a serious note, for all of the home brewed stuff you have on this stie (everything almost except the actual forum code?), this is a great site with loads of content. People ask for something and you wave your wand and make it so. 4.5 stars is quite appropriate.
SilverTalon 07-14-2005, 07:09 AM Post more pictures of boobs and we'll consider giving you that last half-star Gryph. ;)

w00t, I get to talk nerd talk. Ya pretty much, the main 'portal' (hate that word) structure of the site is all from scratch, I use some other systems designed by other people as a base for certain features like wow roster and bf2 profiles, but I often recode them a ton to tie them into the site functions and userbase.
I designed the code for my clan site The Hounds of Zeus (http://www.thzclan.com/content.php) which has support to show different themes, depending what theme you choose, you get news for that section only. I then gave CDL (http://www.dragonwolves.com/content.php) and early version of the site code that they now use for their home. Then I finally brought the code to ATF :nana: I designed the base code to make is very easy to add new content which is why I can add new features so fast. I am getting quite proud of my php knowledge, but I am still really far from doing some really cool (and efficient  ) stuff.
weeeeee it's all about meeee :noob:
Now get to submitting POTD images and creating "REAL" reviews slackers.
Here is what the admin looks like :D
Ardamir 07-14-2005, 11:17 AM Im impressed, the site has never crashed, has a sleek design, and is very functional for newbs such as myself to figure out. Perhaps Blizzard should hire you Gryphon...
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 11:30 AM Hmm, I don't think I am their type. They are looking for people less experienced obviously :D
SilverTalon 07-14-2005, 11:34 AM Im impressed, the site has never crashed, has a sleek design, and is very functional for newbs such as myself to figure out. Perhaps Blizzard should hire you Gryphon...
There's one obvious reason that they'd never hire Gryph to be any sort of WoW Dev...even a web dev:
He doesn't play a shaman.
Malthus 07-14-2005, 12:09 PM I think your already doing some damn cool stuff Gryph. I wish I had the motivation when I get home from work to do half as much as you've done here :)

(bold added for emphasis)
No comment. No, really Gryph--I won't tell. :)
No, really--it's all a great job considering he pretty much runs every bit of the show.
SilverTalon 07-14-2005, 12:23 PM Swad...don't let out the industry secrets. :p
Gryph works hard to keep this up...among other things...
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 12:23 PM rm -rf /
^ if only he was really joking
SilverTalon 07-14-2005, 12:34 PM And if you understood that and laughed right away...hang your head in shame you giant nerd.
:(
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 12:38 PM Yes sadly, rm -rf /, it is a true story
CannonBall 07-14-2005, 02:17 PM Wow!

My friend worked at a manufacturing plant. They were cleaning out the Data Center. He moved 1 of the AS/400 cabinets so they could clean under the raised floor, when he went to move the cabinet back in place it was missing. He stopped a fork lift operator and asked him if he had seen someone move it (thinking a coworker was playing a joke). The operator told him he thought it was to be thrown out with the rest of the trash and had taken it to the trash.... and compacted it!
TRUE STORY
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 03:04 PM lol
skoog 07-14-2005, 03:29 PM omg...... that is toooo much.
Maybe someday I will actually get motivated to do something when I get home from work, but I get to tired of it at work.... gryph does a nice job with the site though definately. I have some php stuff I have to do at work, but it is my least favorite stuff in the world....
Gryph have you done much with PEAR? specifically the Auth package?
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 04:01 PM Nope I haven't :/
I have a pretty slack job with lots of spare time, so all my web dev hobbies are done at work to fill boredom lol. When I get home, I don't do so much coding really accept to toss in a few code ideas that swim around in my head on my hour drive home from work.
Jadal 07-14-2005, 04:08 PM OH YEA! Well if it weren't for ignorant people like me, who have to be led by the nose through some of this computer stuff, then Gryph's job would be easier and he wouldnt have had to learn so much. So, dont the stupid people get a pat on the back too?! :( /sniffles *nobody loves us*
Ah just kiddin. Really is a good sight; user-friendly, intuitive and oh so pretty!
Guess I can take a minute to stroke your e-peen 8=======> O: lol
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 04:12 PM mmm faster
Jadal 07-14-2005, 04:43 PM 8=======>O: - 8====O: - 8==O: - 8O:
Better?
Now that's some complicated coding :p
Stang 07-14-2005, 05:26 PM I think you guys have made his week :D.
He tells me about this stuff and I just look at him and the screen with a weird look and say "Oh thats great honey" hehe.
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 05:59 PM Im all "echo php slash dot equals this cool stats neat thing did that stat slash dot" and shes all "Were you talking?".
Jadal 07-14-2005, 06:12 PM No worries, they never listen to us unless we are pulling our wallets out. Notice how they get all romantic then?
OMG I kill me with that stuff......but seriously folks.
So this forum program is like a base program and then with your superior power for goodness, you add on to it using other pages? That about right. I just ask cause I used to moderate a small forum board and this "set up" reminds me of it.
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 07:24 PM Sort of, I mostly just make use of your login info to verify that you are who you are on the main site so that the different sections have different permissions. And I use the info you put into your profile to do the roster things and stuff. Other than that, no forum code is used to do anything with the rest of the site, only data in the database is used.
skoog 07-14-2005, 08:49 PM yeah like 50% of my job is supposed to be web development... but since I hate web development. the other 50% is being a windows sys admin. We just don't have enough windows boxes to justify me doing that 100%. Are you supposed to be doing web dev gryph?
Gryphon 07-14-2005, 09:05 PM No, in-house CAD work for a Real Estate development company. There are only a couple of projects at a time, most of the time I'm just there on-call for anything they need. There are only 4 of us in the office, one is the secretary, the other two as the owners. Only when there is a new project am I really busy until the site design is done.
