View Full Version : goon squad aren't all bad

Like many of you, I have come to associate Goon Squad with getting ganked. I've been jumped by numerous Goon Squad in the past, and rarely is it a fair fight. It's usually someone who vastly outlevels me, or a group of them of mixed levels. The times when I kill off a ganking Goon Squad member often see me getting hunted down by a whole bunch of them.

Well, today I played for about 45 minutes at lunch, trying to complete this one Warlock quest where I had to cleanse an orb. I had to make my way to Tabetha, this mage in the middle of Dustwallow Marsh. Man, was it ever tough getting there, as the aggro is insane in there, and they were all level 38-41, which is tough to impossible for a level 36. I ran most of the time and died a couple of times on the way.

After finally making it in there, I had to supply the mage with this infernal orb I had gained from a previous quest. She warned me that she would use the orb to summon a demon. She said it was a "fel beast" and that I better have my buffs and potions ready, as well as a whole group of friends, because this guy was tough. I'm like, "whatever", so she goes outside to summon him. WHAM! Out pops this enormous level 40 elite demon, who slays my imp in about two swings and then heads towards me. That's when I see the level 47 Goon Squad mage, looking right at me, from the forest. Here we go, I think - I have no hope in hell of taking down this demon, and now I'm going to get ganked in the process.

So I run into the house, hoping the demon won't follow me (he does), and start whacking him with my sword, causing him all the pain of a index-finger flick to the ear. Next thing I know, fireballs are hitting the demon like crazy. Has my imp resurrected somehow, I wonder? Nope...it's the Goon Squad mage. He's working the demon over like crazy. I run out there and bandage up, then start hitting the demon with everything I had. Together, we took him down. The mage was a little low on health, but we did it. So I ran back inside and turned in the quest as fast as I could, before he changed his mind.

It just goes to show ya: not all Goon Squad are bad. I'm going to spare a lower level Goon Squad member or two, just because of him.

I have come across a few GS guys that are good people. We we have come across alot more that are gankers.

Yes we gank too but we don't do it like them we don't go out of our way to gank lowbies like they do. There is a difference.

You will soon find out who the Goon Squad is Ardamir not even your lvl 16 will help much with a group of them coming at ya or a high level comin at ya :).

I suppose I need to kick my money-making poker habit of late and actually play some more. I mean, I wouldn't want dakota catching up to me ;)

Oh and I think I've run accross maybe one goon squad guy that wasn't terrible as well.

Something similar happend to me awhile ago, worked with this horde dude, did a mini dungeon together, took turns tapping. Really great. Then some other horde ganked me. So some one, cant remember, gryphon maybe came over. I stood out as pait, a low lvl gnome mage. They couldnt resist it. They took the bait and all died. then in his blind rage, ignoring my "not that one" he killed my horde buddy.

Sometimes "friends" get caught in the cross-fire. I was out mining one day around hordelings about 6 levels below me which a lot of people would consider fair ganking turf. However, drawing attention when you're closer to a horde town = not smart...so I just went about my business and largely left them alone...maybe stealing a mob if they looked like they were getting swarmed. Actually had a couple of horde "help" me out by attacking my mobs (not that I needed it, but the gesture...).

One group decided they'd be cool and gank me (3 on 1 doesn't work so well). So then when a 36 rogue comes looking for trouble we team up and just start creaming people. The group that pissed me off to start with got ganked about three times but one of the poor guys who just doing a quest got caught up in the cross-fire. Sucks, but if you see someone leaving your side alone...you might want to mention to the others in the area that so-and-so is cool and not to bother them unless attacked.

On the topic of GS, I've met one or two nice ones myself, but that's far from the norm. A handful of good apples doesn't even out a barrel full of rotten ones.

Pfft that demon was easy.

I doubt he was elite, I fought him today.

Ya know, being a lvl 14 mage by yourself sucks. Can't wait to get to higher levels... Maybe I need to go back to Stormwind quick, and buy some of those level 14 spells? (What is that.. fireball 3, and some other ones, maybe a couple Arcane baddies for defense? I want Blizzard, but ya gotta be lvl 20... :( )
