I had a brainstorm the other day, though it hurt an interesting idea came forth.
We all know about the merit system. But instead of having certs, players should be able to acquire new skills through experience only. For example, a soldier who repairs equipment and troops would be more advanced than someone who just repairs their stuff (more ntu's spent=more experience). The same can be applied to medics.
Hopefully there would be more than just the two current levels of engineering, hacking, and medic; maybe players could customize their equipment to heal and repair when they reach a high enought level.
Also, the entire empire aspect should be destroyed. Instead outfits must form alliances (can do so with outfits from each of the former empire) to capture and hold territory instead of focusing on bases.
Each character would be deleted, but the names would stay with their accounts. In the beginning there would be nothing but chaos but players would eventually form alliances and a much more orderly chain of command.
