We will be releasing an update on Wednesday, November 3 at 3 AM Pacific. Release notes will be posted later in the day. We also wanted to accompany this update with some notes regarding our current goals with this and future updates to BFR balance.
In the course of bringing BattleFrame Robotics into play, we have had ongoing phases of change and evaluation. The aim is to keep BFR’s as a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, but one that, by itself, has sufficient counters that an unsupported BFR unit does not have a significant life expectancy. Unsupported BFR’s that rush headlong into the enemy lines should meet quick and explosive ends. The long buy timer should give BFR pilots pause to consider their attacking routes and to seek out other players to support it.
The regeneration rate of the shield and its sustained fire absorption power is the main focus of this update. We have lessened it, which corresponds to an increase in effectiveness of all other AV weaponry against BFR's as well as quickening BFR vs. BFR combat. We have also changed the shield to take a couple of seconds to actually come back on line after being battered down. During these few seconds, it will not regenerate at all. This is a large change from the current shield that would continually recharge and partially intercept fire even when beat down. This contributed to make it too easy for a BFR to escape lethal amounts of fire. BFR’s could simply turn tail and auto run off over a hill where shields would quickly recharge and it would be right back into the fight. This should be much harder to do now.
